There once was a time when the NBA Dunk Contest was one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year. For me personally, the dunk contest was a bigger deal than any all-star game, most playoffs, and the MLB Home Run Derby. I LOVED IT. However, since the mid-late 2000s, the dunk contest have left all of us wonder if it will ever be the same again. Year after year, we’re forced to watch a bunch of nobodies compete in the dunk contest and give us a lot of lackluster performances, with the 2016 dunk contest being the only outlier. A lack of star power, lack of preparation, and an overall lack of enthusiasm for the event have lead to the pinnacle of the NBA All-Star weekend losing the charm it used to have. Alas, we can all look back on the greatest dunk contest performances of all time to help sate our basketball loving desire to watch highly athletic guys smash basketballs into a hoop with the fury of a thousand suns.
